On October 28th, the opening ceremony of the final was held at Guizhou University (simply referred to as “GZU”) for the 18th “Challenge Cup” National College Students’ Extracurricular Academic and Scientific Works Competition (simply “the 18th ‘Challenge Cup’”). Yang Wei, the Secretary of GZU Party Committee, underscored the pivotal role of scientific and technological innovation in communication, action, and challenge. Yang emphasized the university's commitment to leveraging the competition as a catalyst for sparking innovation passion, fostering entrepreneurial wisdom, deepening understanding, enhancing friendship, and promoting collaborative cooperation and development.
Yang emphasized the foundational importance of science and technology in national strength, highlighting innovation as the soul of national progress. Each iteration of the “Challenge Cup” strategically addresses the country's major needs, disseminating scientific and creative enlightenment among a broad spectrum of young students. The competition motivates a diverse array of young individuals to contribute their wisdom to innovation and creation, resulting in a series of innovative achievements with substantial value and promising prospects.
Yang highlighted that with scientific and technological innovation, the century-old university has much to achieve. Guizhou University will seize this opportunity to further stimulate innovation vitality to contribute to the high-quality development of the university and of the country.
She also emphasized the potential of the younger generation in scientific and technological innovation. The 18th “Challenge Cup” has drawn nearly ten thousand young pioneers of scientific and technological innovation from almost a thousand universities. Yang encouraged these young pioneers to stand at the forefront of the times, and contribute their strength to promoting scientific and technological independence, and accelerating the construction of a strong scientific and technological country.
